Welcome to Rangatira Island!

Follow the day-to-day life of University of Canterbury biologists and research assistants as they carried out their research on Rangatira Island between October 2009 and January 2010.
Rangatira Island is part of the Chatham Islands about 800km off the East coast of New Zealand. It is a special place as it is the home to many endangered species including the Black Robin. As a Department of Conservation sanctuary island it is off limits to the public with only a handful of people allowed to visit each year for research.
This UC science communication project has been made possible with support from the Brian Mason Scientific & Technical Trust and the Canterbury Community Trust. Thanks also to the Department of Conservation.
