Bree Hunter
Field Assistant in Oct 2008
Bree was part of our field team in October 2008. At the time Bree was doing a Postgraduate Diploma in Wildlife Management at the University of Otago. Bree became interested in working with birds when she spent an entire year on Raoul Island in the Kermadec Islands where she worked for DoC. She was keen to get some more ‘hands on’ experience working with black robins, warblers and other birds…so she joined the team on Rangatira Island!
When Bree is not on Rangatira she is an enthusiastic long-distance runner. While on the island, she held the record for being the person who can get to the summit the fastest without collapsing any seabird burrows!
In 2010, Bree worked for the Institute for Bird Populations as a MAPS (“Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survival”) intern in the United States. She ran a bird banding station in Eastern Oregon where she caught over 1000 birds of 56 different species! Bree is now on sub-Antarctic Macquarie Island, where she works for the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service.
